| HOW TO USE |
GeneralPiroxicam is in a class of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Feldene works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. Feldene is used to reduce the pain, inflammation, and stiffness caused by rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. |
| HOW TO TAKE |
GeneralThe recommended dose is 20 mg once daily or 10 mg twice daily. Piroxicam should be taken with food. |
| SIDE EFFECTS |
GeneralPiroxicam common many side effects may include is abdominal pain or discomfort, anemia, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, fluid retention, gas and vomiting. This drug may rarely cause serious (possibly fatal) liver disease. Others common or rare side effects may include is angioedema (swelling of lips, face, tongue and throat), anxiety, asthma, belching, black stools, blood in the urine, blurred vision, bruising, colicky pain, coma and confusion. |
| PRECAUTION |
GeneralBefore taking Piroxicam, you should let your healthcare provider know if you are breastfeeding, pregnant, or a frequent user of alcohol, among other things. If, while taking this drug, you experience chest pain, shortness of breath, weakness, and slurring of speech, call 911 immediately. These symptoms could be signs of a heart attack or stroke. Precautions and warnings with Feldene also extend to people with liver or kidney disease or diabetes. |
| DRUG INTERACTION |
GeneralPiroxicam generally is used with caution in patients taking blood thinning medications to prevent the clotting of blood (anticoagulants), such as warfarin (Coumadin), because of an increased risk of bleeding. The increased risk is due to the fact that NSAIDs prevent the clotting of blood though by a different mechanism than anticoagulants. (They inhibit blood platelets which are important for the clotting of blood.) Piroxicam can increase blood levels of several drugs. Patients taking lithium can develop toxic blood lithium levels, and patients taking cyclosporine (Sandimmune) can develop kidney toxicity. Piroxicam may increase the toxic effects of methotrexate and may reduce the effectiveness of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors . |

GeneralStore Piroxicam at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Feldene out of the reach of children and away from pets. |
